By decision of the Istanbul Governor’s Office, passenger meet-and-greet operations at Istanbul Airport will be conducted through only two gates as of 1 February 2026. The implementation is being introduced on the grounds of security and operational efficiency.
In line with the decision taken by the Istanbul Governor’s Office, the passenger meet-and-greet procedure at Istanbul Airport is being reorganised. Under the new practice, as of 1 February 2026, gates numbered 8 and 14 located on the arrivals level of the terminal building will be closed to passenger exits.
After this date, all passenger meet-and-greet activities will be carried out exclusively through gates numbered 9 and 13. Authorities stated that the main objective of the regulation is to reduce passenger density within the terminal, enhance security, and manage operational processes more effectively.
Security and Efficiency Take Priority
In the assessment made by the Governor’s Office, it was stated that by limiting the number of gates, passenger flow will become more controlled, congestion within the terminal will be prevented, and airport operational efficiency will be increased. It was also noted that the implementation was planned in line with sustainable operational objectives.
Warning to the Sector from TÜRSAB
The Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB), in its evaluation of the new regulation, drew attention to the importance of travel agencies and sector stakeholders making the necessary planning in advance. The statement emphasised that agencies should revise their operations in line with the new gate arrangement in order to avoid any lack of information or guidance.
It is stated that the new implementation should be closely monitored, particularly by tour operators, transfer companies, and organisations providing meet-and-greet services.
