TAV Airports CEO Serkan Kaptan announced that they have bid for the operation of Kuwait Airport and expect the tender to be finalized within the next two months, with a definitive outcome by the third quarter at the latest. Speaking on CNBC-e’s Kazandıran Strateji program, Kaptan emphasized their intention to secure the operation of Kuwait Airport, positioning it as a significant connection point.
Strong Start to 2024
Kaptan highlighted that they had a strong start to 2024, with a 20% increase in international traffic in the first six months. Notably, İzmir saw a 25% growth, and their overseas operations, especially in Almaty, showed significant growth.
Focus on Eastern Europe
Kaptan mentioned their plan to shift the focus of their Eastern European assets to Montenegro, a region they have been monitoring closely for a long time.
Global Aviation and the Russia Crisis
Kaptan discussed a significant slowdown in domestic traffic within Europe and the broader impact of Russia on the entire region. He noted a 40% decline in Russian passengers in Antalya, but this loss was offset by an increase in European passengers, resulting in a 17% growth in Antalya post-pandemic.
Ongoing Investments in Antalya
Kaptan shared that their investments in Antalya are expected to be completed by the beginning of the year. He anticipates continued rapid growth and an increase in the proportion of foreign investors. Highlighting that they were among the best-performing stocks in the first six months, Kaptan reiterated their awareness of the desire for international growth.
