The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL) has published its European Aviation Report covering the period of 7–13 July 2025. According to the report, Istanbul Airport was recorded as Europe’s busiest airport, with an average of 1,612 daily flights.
During this period, Istanbul Airport achieved significant success in both capacity and operational efficiency, leaving behind Europe’s leading air transport hubs.
Left Europe’s Giants Behind
According to EUROCONTROL data, the following airports trailed behind Istanbul Airport:
- Amsterdam Schiphol – 1,457 daily flights
- Paris Charles De Gaulle – 1,428 daily flights
- Frankfurt Airport – 1,400 daily flights
- London Heathrow – 1,346 daily flights
Thanks to its strategic location on both east–west and north–south routes, Istanbul Airport continues to serve as a key global transit point for passenger and cargo transportation.
Steady Steps Toward Becoming a Global Hub
A strong indicator of Turkey’s vision to become a global centre in aviation, Istanbul Airport ranks at the top of air traffic on both a regional and international scale, thanks to investments coordinated by the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMİ).
