France is preparing to deliver Mirage fighter jets to Ukraine in early 2025. French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced that Ukrainian pilots and technicians are continuing their training in France, with the jets set to be delivered in the first quarter of 2025. However, no details were provided regarding the number of aircraft to be sent.
Equipped with Modern Gear
Minister Lecornu emphasized that the Mirage fighter jets France will send to Ukraine are capable of conducting airstrikes and are equipped with electronic defense systems to counter Russian signal jammers. These new enhancements aim to boost Ukraine’s combat capabilities.
Joint Initiative and Training Support
It was reported that Ukrainian pilots and technicians are continuing their training in France as part of a joint effort by France and other countries to support Ukraine with aircraft. Lecornu stated that with the delivery of these jets, Ukraine’s air defense capabilities will be significantly strengthened.
Macron Fulfills His Promise
French President Emmanuel Macron had promised to send fighter jets to Ukraine in June 2023. The Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets, specifically designed for air defense, are also capable of utilizing the French-British-made Scalp/Storm Shadow cruise missiles that France has provided to Ukraine.
Retirement of Mirage Jets Planned
France plans to retire its Mirage fighter jets by 2030 and replace them with more modern Rafale jets. This transition is part of the ongoing modernization of France’s air force.
