Scheduled flights between Ağrı and İzmir have officially resumed after nearly six years, with the first commercial aircraft landing at Ağrı Ahmed-i Hani Airport. The flights are operated by Pegasus Airlines. This long-anticipated development was warmly welcomed by the local community and regional officials.
Welcome Ceremony Held
A welcome ceremony was held at the airport following the inaugural flight. The event was attended by Ağrı Deputy Governor Tuncay Karataş, AK Party Ağrı Provincial Chair İlhami Yıldız, various institutional representatives, airport officials, and local citizens. Flowers were presented to the flight crew, and commemorative photos were taken.

AK Party Ağrı Provincial Chair İlhami Yıldız emphasised that the resumed flights will significantly contribute to the city’s transportation infrastructure, tourism potential, and economic revitalisation:
“We have long been in contact with relevant ministries, airline companies, and authorities in Ankara to restart Ağrı–İzmir flights. We are delighted that these efforts have finally paid off.”
Technical Upgrades and Expansion at the Airport
With the resumption of flights, several technical improvements and capacity expansions have been implemented at Ağrı Ahmed-i Hani Airport:
