Emirates, one of the leading airlines in the Middle East, has announced the resumption of flights to Damascus. According to the airline’s official statement, the decision follows an extensive evaluation process conducted in coordination with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) General Civil Aviation Authority.
Initially, the route will operate three times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays. Starting from 2 August 2025, Saturday flights will be added, increasing the frequency to four weekly services. According to current plans, daily flights to Damascus will commence from 26 October 2025.
Damascus Flights to Play a Strategic Role
Commenting on the development, Emirates Airline Chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum stated:
“Resuming Emirates’ flights to Damascus is a strategic step that supports Syria’s recovery and reconstruction process. This move will accelerate economic revitalisation by expanding air transport links, paving the way for new investments and strengthening access to global markets and trade.”
Al Maktoum also highlighted that the re-established direct air connection by Emirates will allow millions of Syrians living in the Americas, Europe, and Gulf countries to reconnect with their homeland.
A New Chapter in UAE-Syria Relations
With over 350,000 Syrians living in the UAE, the resumption of Emirates flights to Damascus will make it easier for them to reach their families, business ties, and cultural roots. The restart of these flights is also expected to boost commercial relations between the UAE and Syria.
Emirates had suspended its Damascus operations in 2012 following the onset of internal unrest in Syria in 2011. With this new chapter, the airline aims to contribute to the region’s stabilisation and open the door to a renewed era in air transport.
