Denmark has decided to ban civilian drone flights following suspicious drone sightings at military facilities overnight. Under the decision made on Sunday, no civilian drones will be allowed into Danish airspace starting next week.
Airports Closed, Hybrid Attack Concerns
Due to drone activity, some airports were temporarily closed, while Copenhagen Airport was unable to operate for about four hours. The Danish military announced that “various measures” had been taken but did not provide details.
Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen described these developments as part of a “hybrid attack,” pointing to Moscow. The Kremlin denied the accusations. Denmark will assume the EU Presidency in the second half of the year and host European leaders. Defence Minister Troels Lund Poulsen stated, “We must raise security to the highest level during the EU summit.”
Germany Also Reviewing Measures
The drone violations in Denmark have also prompted action in Germany. The German Interior Ministry announced that changes to laws regarding air security and police capabilities may be made. The ministry underlined that advances in technology create new security vulnerabilities and confirmed that work on the issue is ongoing.
