An important step has been taken in the investigation into the aircraft carrying a Libyan military delegation that crashed near Ankara. The flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder (black box) belonging to the crash have been sent to Germany for detailed technical analysis.
In a statement by the Libyan Ministry of Interior, it was noted that the purpose of sending the black box to Germany was “to ensure that a definitive and impartial technical analysis is carried out.”
Examination to Be Conducted in Germany
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu had previously announced in a statement on the social media platform X that, following preliminary examinations, the black boxes would be examined in a neutral country to determine the cause of the crash, but he did not disclose the name of the country.
In Germany, the examination of flight recorders is most commonly carried out by the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU), located in the city of Braunschweig.
Support for the Investigation from Turkish Authorities
The Libyan Ministry of Interior announced that the Turkish prosecutor’s office has committed to providing full support to the investigation being conducted into the crash. In this context, it was stated that all documents and camera footage related to the incident would be shared with the Libyan authorities.
It was also reported that the Libyan criminal police sent DNA samples taken from the relatives of those who lost their lives in the crash to the Turkish authorities in order to verify their identities.
It was noted that the technical investigation and judicial process related to the crash are being carried out comprehensively through cooperation between the Turkish and Libyan authorities.
