ASELSAN, one of the rapidly growing global players in the Turkish defense industry, added another partnership to its defense cooperation efforts in Southeast Asia. The company signed two separate critical contracts with Indonesian authorities during SAHA Expo 2026, enabling the Indonesian military to utilize Turkish national defense systems.
During the ceremony held at the ASELSAN stand, the “Unmanned Naval Vehicle Payloads Contract” and the “Mission-Critical Communication Systems Contract” were officially signed.
The agreements were signed between ASELSAN Deputy General Manager Özgür Taylan Sarı and PT Republic Director Ivandry Febriando Sitepo, with the participation of ASELSAN CEO Ahmet Akyol.
Turkish technology for the Indonesian Navy
Within the scope of the signed contracts, ASELSAN’s Unmanned Naval Vehicle (USV) payload systems will be integrated into the inventory of the Indonesian Navy Command.
In addition, the development of mission-critical communication infrastructures for the Indonesian Armed Forces became one of the key components of the agreement.
According to defense experts, unmanned systems and secure communication technologies are among the fastest-growing fields in modern warfare concepts. ASELSAN’s exports in these areas demonstrate that Türkiye is strengthening its position in the global market not only as a platform producer but also as a manufacturer of high-technology subsystems.
Turkish defense industry influence grows in Southeast Asia
In recent years, defense industry relations between Indonesia and Türkiye have deepened significantly. Projects focused on joint production, technology transfer, and system integration are elevating the strategic cooperation between the two countries to a new level.
ASELSAN’s new agreements with Indonesia are also regarded as steps that increase Türkiye’s influence in the Southeast Asian market.
Particularly in countries with extensive maritime jurisdictions such as Indonesia, unmanned naval vehicles and secure communication systems are considered critical components of defense planning.
A new era of high technology in defense exports
One of the most notable changes in Türkiye’s recent defense exports has been the increasing demand not only for air platforms or land vehicles, but also for advanced technology solutions such as radar, electro-optics, communication, and mission systems.
These agreements signed by ASELSAN reveal that the Turkish defense industry is now competing globally not only with its production capacity, but also with its engineering capabilities in electronic warfare, network-centric operations, and autonomous systems.
It is believed that the contracts signed during SAHA 2026 could pave the way for new Türkiye–Indonesia defense cooperation projects in the coming period.
