The Air Traffic Control Radar System HTRS-100 developed by ASELSAN is being installed at Damascus International Airport. With advanced tracking, high durability, and uninterrupted operation features, it will enhance flight safety.

The Air Traffic Control Radar System HTRS-100, developed by Türkiye’s defence industry giant ASELSAN, is being installed at Damascus International Airport. The system, which stands out with its advanced target tracking capability, high durability, and uninterrupted operation features, is expected to make a significant contribution to flight safety in the region.

According to information shared by the Turkish Embassy in Damascus, installation works for the HTRS-100 radar system are actively ongoing on site. The ASELSAN-produced system has been equipped with the latest technologies to deliver high reliability and performance in civil aviation operations.

Uninterrupted Air Traffic Monitoring Under Harsh Conditions

One of the main components of the HTRS-100, the Primary Surveillance Radar (PSR), operates in the S-Band frequency. Thanks to advanced interference and clutter suppression algorithms, it is capable of providing clear and reliable target tracking even in challenging scenarios such as:

  • Heavy air traffic
  • Adverse meteorological conditions
  • Electromagnetic interference

The system’s Secondary Surveillance Radar, meanwhile, enhances the accuracy of air traffic control by enabling aircraft identification through Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interrogations.

High-Level Reliability with Distributed Architecture

One of the most important features that distinguishes the HTRS-100 from similar systems is its “distributed active hot-redundant architecture,” which exists in only a limited number of radar systems worldwide.

Thanks to this matrix-based architecture:

  • The radar continues to operate even if a failure occurs in any system component
  • Complete system shutdown is prevented
  • No interruption occurs in flight traffic during critical moments

This feature significantly increases operational safety, especially for high-traffic airports.

Air and Interference Management with Intelligent Algorithms

HTRS-100 employs intelligent noise suppression algorithms against conditions that are among the greatest risk factors in aviation operations, such as:

  • Storms
  • Heavy rainfall
  • Atmospheric interference

In addition, the dedicated weather monitoring channel integrated into the system tracks atmospheric events in real time, offering healthier decision-making processes for pilots and air traffic controllers.

Long Service Life, Rapid Maintenance, and Flexible Range

ASELSAN HTRS-100:

  • Provides long service life with a mean time before critical failure exceeding 40,000 hours
  • Supports operational continuity with maintenance and repair times of under 30 minutes

It offers a radar range of 80 or 100 nautical miles (approximately 185 km), depending on requirements.

With these features, the system aims to enable civil aviation activities at Damascus International Airport to be conducted more safely, uninterruptedly, and with a modern infrastructure.
