Following the incident, hundreds of passengers expressed their frustration, stating they were stranded for nearly 24 hours.
Mechanical Issue Shortly After Takeoff
The aircraft, which departed Dallas Fort Worth Airport for Paris Charles de Gaulle on August 31, was diverted to Nashville in less than an hour due to a mechanical issue. Flight tracking data shows the incident began at 1:15 a.m. local time. The crew informed passengers about the fuel leak.
Passenger Reactions
Passengers stranded in Nashville reported that they were only provided hotel accommodations and a $12 meal voucher, losing their planned holiday arrangements. Passenger Carlota Montoya said she missed a business meeting and described the airline’s indifference as a “travel failure,” highlighting the disruption experienced by vacationers.
Montoya shared on social media platform X:
“We made an emergency landing in Nashville on our way to Paris, now delayed over 24 hours. Zero support, zero communication. American Airlines, what a nightmare!”
Airline Statement
American Airlines issued a brief statement apologizing and emphasizing that the diversions were made “solely with safety as the priority.” However, passengers continued to complain about the lack of communication and support.
Labor Day Travel Chaos
The incident was not the only disruption faced by travelers during Labor Day. Around the same period, a disruption in the air traffic control system at Newark Liberty Airport caused delays of up to four hours for flights arriving from the U.S. and Canada. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) stated that the disruption was due to equipment issues affecting the control center in Philadelphia.
Authorities limited the number of flights landing at Newark for safety reasons, while passengers described the repeated delays and uncertainty on social media as a “travel ordeal.”
