Türkiye’s Minister of the Interior, Ali Yerlikaya, shared the latest information on the search, rescue, and investigation efforts regarding the aircraft that crashed last night in Ankara and was reported to be carrying a Libyan delegation. Yerlikaya stated that the cockpit voice recorder and the flight data recorder, which contain critical data related to the crash, have been found and handed over to the relevant institutions for examination.
Speaking to members of the press at the Mobile Coordination Centre following the accident, Minister Yerlikaya said that the aircraft crashed after reporting a technical malfunction.
Contact Lost Near Haymana
Minister Yerlikaya stated that the aircraft reported at 20:32 that it would return due to a technical malfunction; however, as of 20:52, all contact with the aircraft was completely lost in the vicinity of Haymana district.
According to the information provided by Yerlikaya, Gendarmerie teams reached the scene at around 22:00 and, during their initial inspections, found some aircraft parts. As search operations continued, it was reported that the wreckage of the aircraft was located approximately 2 kilometres south of Kesikkavak neighbourhood in Haymana district.
Cockpit Voice Recorder and Flight Data Recorder Found at the Wreckage Site
Minister Yerlikaya announced that as a result of the work carried out at the scene by teams from the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure’s Transport Safety Investigation Centre, the aircraft’s cockpit voice recorder was found at 02:45, and the flight data recorder was found at 03:20.
Yerlikaya said, “The examination and evaluation processes regarding these devices have been initiated by the relevant institutions.”
It was stated that the technical and judicial process related to the accident will continue in a comprehensive manner in line with the data to be obtained.
