Samaritan’s Purse, a North Carolina–based relief organisation, announced that its medicine transport aircraft operating in South Sudan was hijacked. In the incident that occurred on 2 December 2025, it was reported that the pilot and one staff member on board were not seriously injured.
According to the statement, the single-engine Caravan aircraft had taken off to deliver medicine to a mobile medical unit in Maiwut, South Sudan. After being hijacked, the aircraft was safely landed in the city of Wau, approximately 400 miles southwest.
Hijacker Detained
After the aircraft landed, the attacker was detained by the country’s National Security Service. Samaritan’s Purse stated that the swift intervention of security forces ensured the safe resolution of the incident.
The organisation’s statement read:
“We thank God that no one was seriously injured. We are grateful to the security forces who quickly brought the situation under control.”
