The strike between U.S.-based global aviation giant Boeing and the union, which has lasted for five weeks, saw a significant development. After negotiations, both sides reached a tentative agreement, which, if approved by union members, will bring the strike to an end.
Covers 33,000 Workers
Union officials announced that the tentative agreement, affecting around 33,000 Boeing employees, will be put to a vote on Wednesday. They revealed that the agreement includes a 35% wage increase over the next four years and various additional benefits for workers, which would enable them to return to their jobs.
Previous Agreements Rejected
Union leaders reminded that previous tentative agreements had been rejected by union members, but emphasized that this time, a stronger offer has been presented for acceptance. The striking workers had initially gone on strike on September 13, rejecting Boeing’s earlier proposal of a 30% wage increase, performance bonuses, and enhancements to retirement benefits, which they deemed insufficient.
If the union members approve the agreement, the five-week strike at Boeing will come to an end, and employees will return to work.
