In the past two days, Turkish Airlines (THY) has conducted collective terminations of employment contracts through board of directors’ decisions, without specifying any reasons. Typically affecting ground personnel, following these terminations, the HAVA-SEN union announced that it would provide legal support to the workers.
The President of HAVA-SEN stated in a post-termination announcement, “Although they are not our members, we always stand by our worker brothers and sisters and will provide legal support.” Additionally, emphasizing the employer’s legal obligations in case of termination without specifying reasons as required by labor law, they voiced concerns about the legal basis of the terminations.
The statement underscored the necessity of protecting workers’ rights in Turkey and the need to fight against arbitrary practices by employers. Furthermore, it was mentioned that institutions labeled with negative terms such as “yellow union” and “rich union lordship” negatively affect the country’s labor market.
HAVA-SEN emphasized its support for non-member workers, stating that it stands by them and will provide assistance. It was emphasized that every individual should defend their rights and have the option to join HAVA-SEN by protecting their rights through the e-government platform.
