A Boeing 757 passenger aircraft operated by Azur Air on the Phuket–Barnaul route made an unscheduled landing at Lanzhou Airport in China after issuing an emergency signal during the flight. The airline stated that the health condition of the 238 passengers and crew on board is good.
Danger Signal Mid-Flight
The aircraft operating as Azur Air flight ZF-2998, flying from Phuket, Thailand, to Barnaul, Russia, declared an emergency while in Chinese airspace. The Boeing 757 sent a danger signal at an altitude of approximately 6.6 kilometres during the middle of the flight.
The triggering of the aircraft’s emergency code was also confirmed via flight tracking systems. According to Flightradar24 data, following the signal the aircraft began a controlled descent, and the crew activated safety procedures.
Unscheduled Landing Took Place in Lanzhou
According to information confirmed by Azur Air officials, the aircraft made an unscheduled but safe landing at Lanzhou Airport in China’s Gansu province. An airline spokesperson stated that the landing was carried out within the framework of normal procedures and that no injuries or material damage occurred.
The statement included the words: “All passengers and crew on board are safe. The landing was completed in accordance with standard safety procedures.”
Fuel Dumping Manoeuvre Drew Attention
It was reported that the aircraft circled over Lanzhou Airport for a period before landing. According to experts, this manoeuvre was carried out to reduce fuel prior to an emergency landing. It was learned that the aircraft completed six circuits over the airport before touching down on the runway without issue.
It was stated that there were a total of 238 passengers on board, that passengers were taken to the terminal area after landing, and that they were informed about the situation.
Azur Air and Authorities in Contact
The airline announced that following the incident, contact was established with Russian aviation authorities and Azur Air’s representatives in China. In a statement from the company, it was emphasised that the crew continuously monitored flight parameters and that all necessary procedures were fully implemented during the preparation for landing.
The aircraft is currently in a holding position at Lanzhou Airport. It is stated that a decision regarding how the passengers’ journey will continue will be made after technical inspections are completed.

It was reported that the aircraft has been handed over to technical teams and that detailed inspections have begun.
