Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) has taken a critical step in one of Turkey’s largest defence projects, the National Combat Aircraft (KAAN). The company has signed a production agreement with the Italian Oma Aerospace Group, marking another significant milestone in the manufacturing of the aircraft’s hydraulic and electromechanical systems.
The agreement signed in Italy is considered a strategic milestone in KAAN’s development process. Recent reports highlighted the progress made in the fuselage production of the prototype, referred to as “P1,” which is scheduled to make its maiden flight in April 2026.
Headquartered in Foligno, Italy, OMA (Officine Meccaniche Aeronautiche) S.p.A. was founded in 1948. The company operates in the production of hydraulic and electromechanical actuator systems such as aircraft landing gear, thrust reversers, airbrakes, moving doors, cargo ramps, and canopy mechanisms, as well as in the manufacturing of airframe components, engineering, and product support services.
Since the 1980s, OMA has contributed to helicopter projects such as the Agusta A109, A129, and EH101, and in later years, it played key roles in the EF2000 (Eurofighter) and NH-90 programmes.
This new cooperation between TUSAŞ and OMA will further strengthen Turkey’s national fighter aircraft project KAAN through international partnerships.
