Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during his visit to the United States for the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, signed a strategic agreement with Boeing Global President Brendan Nelson. The agreement covers a record-breaking procurement package aimed at strengthening Uzbekistan Airways’ fleet.
Under the agreement, signed in the presence of President Mirziyoyev, Uzbekistan Airways will acquire 22 Boeing 787 Dreamliner passenger aircraft with a total investment of $8.5 billion. The package also includes options for an additional 14 aircraft and 8 aircraft.
This agreement marks the largest aircraft purchase in the history of Uzbekistan Airways. It also stands as the most comprehensive commercial contract ever signed with a Central Asian country.
US President Donald Trump described the deal as a “great agreement” in a statement on his social media account. He noted that the purchase would create jobs for more than 35,000 people in the United States and referred to President Mirziyoyev as “a man of his word.”
The US Department of Commerce emphasised that Uzbekistan’s move is of great significance not only in terms of commercial relations but also for regional cooperation.
A New Era in Uzbek Aviation
This historic agreement aims to strengthen Uzbekistan Airways’ position in the global market. Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft are known for their modern technology, fuel efficiency, and eco-friendly features; the new fleet is expected to boost Uzbekistan’s regional and international flight capacity.
