At San Diego International Airport, a Cessna Citation X private jet suffered a landing gear failure, forcing runway closure and causing flight delays and cancellations. The airport returned to normal operations the following day.
San Diego International Airport resumed normal operations on Thursday after hours of disruption caused by a private jet incident on Wednesday evening.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a Cessna Citation X (Model 750) private jet experienced a landing gear malfunction at 5:41 p.m. as it was preparing for take-off. The nose landing gear collapsed, leaving the aircraft stranded on the runway. No injuries were reported.
The runway remained closed for about four hours, triggering widespread delays and cancellations. Airlines such as Marabu Airlines and Condor were forced to cancel or divert flights to other airports. Passengers faced long waits, ticketing issues, and additional travel costs.
Airport spokesperson Larisa Casillas said, “We anticipate the situation will be resolved. We are experiencing a ground delay at the moment, but once FAA-controlled processes are completed, operations will return to normal.”
Footage from the incident showed the jet stuck in a precarious position on the runway. Captain Bob Katz, a commercial airline pilot who reviewed the tower communications, noted that a near-collision risk had emerged, stating, “Using the main runway for both landings and take-offs increases the risks in situations like this.”
The FAA has launched a detailed investigation into the cause of the landing gear failure.
