On Monday afternoon, a bomb threat prompted an emergency response at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The alert was issued just before the departure of Spirit Airlines Flight 1332. Authorities moved the aircraft to a secure location, and three individuals were taken into custody for interrogation.
Deputies from the Broward Sheriff’s Office Airport District responded to the scene around 3:15 p.m. after receiving the threat. The Spirit aircraft, scheduled to depart for Kansas City, Missouri at 2:40 p.m., was held on the runway and taxied to a remote area as a precaution.
Due to the potential risk, passengers were evacuated from the aircraft and transported by bus. Footage showed passengers disembarking without their carry-on baggage. Their temporary destination was not immediately disclosed.
K-9 Search and Detentions
A bomb-sniffing K-9 unit was deployed to assess the threat, and law enforcement conducted a detailed inspection of the aircraft. In a statement, Spirit Airlines said:
“Our guests were safely deplaned. The aircraft was inspected by law enforcement and cleared. Safety is our top priority.”
Was the Threat Real?
Authorities have not released the identities of the detained individuals or details on the nature or origin of the threat. It remains unclear whether any suspicious items were found onboard the aircraft.
