Turkish Airlines (THY) is taking a groundbreaking step in international travel. The airline is preparing to launch a 17-hour direct service from Sydney to Istanbul by the end of 2026.
This route will save passengers around five hours compared to the current Kuala Lumpur stopover option. The new service will offer comfort, speed, and convenience for both Turkish and Australian travellers, significantly boosting tourism and trade between the two nations.
A Route That Unites Two Continents in One Flight
Turkish Airlines’ Sydney flights will not only establish a direct connection between Australia and Türkiye but will also open a new gateway for travellers heading to the Middle East and Europe.
Tourism authorities from both countries expect the new route to drive growth in cultural exchange, student mobility, and business travel.
Turkish Airlines CEO Bilal Ekşi highlighted the strategic significance of the new route, stating:
“The Sydney–Istanbul route is an important part of Turkish Airlines’ global connectivity vision. This service will breathe new life into the tourism sectors of both countries and offer our passengers a unique flying experience.”
Ultra-Long-Range Comfort with the Airbus A350-1000
The new route will be operated with Airbus A350-1000 aircraft. Known for their long-range performance and fuel efficiency, these aircraft will feature up to 60 Business Class seats and a spacious cabin layout, providing passengers with a comfortable long-haul experience.
The Business Class cabin will feature Turkish Airlines’ next-generation “Crystal Suite” concept. These high-walled, sliding-door private suites are equipped with wireless charging units, USB-C ports, and advanced in-flight entertainment systems, offering passengers a personalised luxury space on ultra-long flights.
Economy Class passengers will also enjoy a comfortable journey thanks to ergonomic seating, generous legroom, and upgraded in-flight entertainment options.
Boosting Tourism and the Economy
The new direct flights are expected to have a multiplier effect on the tourism industries of both nations.
With Australia’s iconic landmarks such as the Sydney Opera House, Bondi Beach, and the Blue Mountains now just one flight away from Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, and the Bosphorus, travel between the two destinations will become more accessible than ever.
Officials from Tourism Australia emphasised that the direct connection will enhance cultural interaction, create new economic opportunities for local businesses, and strengthen Australia’s accessibility in global tourism.
A New Era for Global Travel
This strategic move by Turkish Airlines is part of the company’s ongoing global network expansion.
The new route will not only link two countries but also redefine the intercontinental travel experience.
With this development, Turkish Airlines aims to provide strong momentum for both Türkiye’s and Australia’s tourism sectors.
The Sydney–Istanbul route will establish a new bridge in the skies, bringing two cultures, two economies, and two continents closer than ever before.
