Dubai-based airline flydubai has taken a historic step towards expanding its fleet by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Airbus for 150 A321neo aircraft. This agreement officially makes flydubai a new Airbus customer while demonstrating the airline’s confidence in Dubai’s long-term growth ambitions.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on the second day of the Dubai Airshow 2025 by His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman of flydubai, Ghaith Al Ghaith, CEO of flydubai, and Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft.
“This agreement strengthens our commitment to Dubai’s vision”
His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum commented on this significant announcement with the following remarks:
“This groundbreaking agreement we have signed for 150 A321neos is not only a fleet expansion step; it supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and aligns with the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.”
Sheikh Ahmed added that the A321neos would diversify flydubai’s narrow-body fleet and become a cornerstone of its long-term growth strategy, stating:
“This strategic addition will enable flydubai to play a key role in the expansion plans of Dubai World Central, which aims to become the world’s largest airport. The new A321neos will strengthen the next phase of our network development.”

Christian Scherer, CEO of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, shared his thoughts on flydubai joining the Airbus family:
“We are pleased to welcome flydubai, one of the most ambitious and fastest-growing carriers in the Middle East, as a new Airbus customer. The advantages offered by the A321neo in range, efficiency, and passenger comfort will support flydubai’s strategic growth.”
A321neo: More Efficient, More Sustainable, Longer Range
The A321neo stands out as the most advanced model of the A320neo family, equipped with new-generation engines, Sharklet winglets, and components that provide enhanced cabin efficiency. Compared to previous-generation single-aisle aircraft, the A321neo offers:
- More than 20% fuel savings,
- More than 20% CO₂ emissions reduction,
- Enhanced range and capacity,
- A more modern and comfortable cabin design.
As of the end of October 2025, there are more than 7,200 A321neo orders from around 100 customers worldwide.
New-Generation SAF-Compatible Fleets
All Airbus aircraft, including the A321neo, can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims for its aircraft to become 100% SAF compatible by 2030.
This agreement will play a critical role in flydubai’s transition to a more sustainable, modern, and efficient fleet while expanding the airline’s regional and international network.
