United Airlines Debuts Starlink WiFi on First Transatlantic Route

United Airlines has expanded its rollout of free Starlink WiFi for MileagePlus members, marking a major milestone with the carrier’s first transatlantic widebody flight equipped with the satellite-based internet service.

The Boeing 777-200 operated on United’s Newark-to-London route, becoming the first of nearly 60 widebody aircraft expected to receive Starlink connectivity this year. United plans to outfit its entire widebody fleet by summer 2027 as it accelerates deployment across its global network.

Starlink Rollout Accelerates Across Global Network

United currently has more than 400 Starlink-equipped aircraft in service and expects to reach nearly 1,000 by the end of the year. International travelers can expect to see Starlink-enabled aircraft operating from United hubs in Newark, Washington, D.C., Houston and San Francisco to destinations including London, Frankfurt, Zurich, Paris, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Tokyo.

“United is changing what it means to stay connected on an overseas flight,” said David Kinzelman, United’s Chief Customer Officer, in a media statement. “Starlink offers the same fast, reliable internet access and connectivity we’re all used to at home, delivered in the air at 35,000 feet, flying anywhere around the world.”

Since launching Starlink WiFi last spring, United has carried more than 18.6 million passengers on Starlink-equipped aircraft across more than 311,000 flights, connecting nearly 10 million devices.

“Our ability to deploy Starlink WiFi across our fleet at this speed and scale is a testament to the expertise of our team and the strength of our collaboration with Starlink,” said Ankit Gupta, United’s Chief Air Operations Officer, in a press statement. “Together, we’ve built a highly efficient installation program that is transforming the onboard experience for our customers.”
