During a ceremony held at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing air transport relations between Türkiye and New Zealand was signed by Director General of Civil Aviation Mr. Kemal Yüksek and New Zealand Ambassador Mr. Greg Lewis.
Under the signed Memorandum of Understanding, the existing passenger traffic rights of 14 weekly frequencies will be maintained, while the designated airlines of both countries will be granted the opportunity to exercise fifth freedom traffic rights at two intermediate points to be determined in the future. This arrangement is expected to provide Turkish Airlines (THY) with greater flexibility, particularly in planning long-haul operations, thereby contributing to the future development of sustainable air services between Türkiye and New Zealand.
Minister Uraloğlu: Türkiye Continues to Strengthen Its Global Air Transport Network
Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu stated that Türkiye remains committed to strengthening its global air transport network and emphasized that the Memorandum of Understanding signed with New Zealand will contribute to the development of air transport relations between the two countries, create new opportunities for cooperation, and enhance the international reach of Turkish civil aviation.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Director General of Civil Aviation Prof. Dr. Kemal Yüksek stated that the friendly relations between Türkiye and New Zealand continue to develop on the basis of historical ties and mutual understanding, emphasizing that civil aviation plays an important role in strengthening cooperation between the two countries.
Prof. Dr. Yüksek noted that, thanks to Türkiye’s strategic location, strong airport infrastructure, and extensive flight network, the country has become a major aviation hub connecting Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. He added that enhanced air connectivity would further strengthen tourism, trade, and cultural relations between the two countries.
The parties agreed that the signed Memorandum of Understanding would mark the beginning of a new era of civil aviation cooperation between Türkiye and New Zealand.
