HÜRJET, one of Turkey’s most significant projects in the class of jet-powered aircraft, is experiencing a multi-faceted progress process with its test flights, mass production preparations, and international export negotiations. Within the scope of the project carried out by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) under the coordination of the Presidency of Defence Industries, two prototype aircraft have so far completed 340 sorties and reached a total of 260 flight hours.
The 2026 Schedule for Mass Production Remains on Track
Mass production activities in the HÜRJET Project continue without interruption. TUSAŞ is maintaining its efforts in line with the 2026 delivery schedule for the Turkish Air Force aerobatic team, the Turkish Stars.
Following the aircraft currently under assembly, the first flights of new aircraft that will roll out from the mass production line in the first quarter of 2025 are targeted. TUSAŞ is nearing completion of its preparations to activate an infrastructure capable of producing 2 HÜRJET aircraft per month.
The Project Started in 2017, First Flight Took Place in 2023
Designed and developed with domestic and national capabilities, the HÜRJET Project was officially launched in August 2017. The first manufactured component was moved to the assembly line on 10 June 2022, followed by intensive ground tests.
Turkey’s first jet-powered supersonic trainer aircraft HÜRJET:
- Performed its first engine run on 30 January 2023,
- Conducted its maiden flight on 25 April 2023.
Since then, its flight tests have been continuing successfully within the design envelope.
Initial Delivery of 16 Aircraft for the Turkish Air Force
TUSAŞ plans to deliver 16 units to the Turkish Air Force in the first phase for HÜRJET. This number will be increased in future years with variants in different configurations.
Extensive Mission Capability and Technical Specifications
The single-engine, tandem-cockpit HÜRJET has been developed to play a critical role in the transition to modern fighter aircraft. Its mission range includes:
- Advanced jet training
- Armed/unarmed air patrol
- Aerobatic flights

The formation flight of two HÜRJET aircraft with different camouflage schemes and their flight demonstration with the Turkish Stars during the test phase drew significant attention.
Export Contract with Spain Nearing Completion
HÜRJET holds the position of Turkey’s first jet trainer aircraft with export potential. TUSAŞ General Manager Mehmet Demiroğlu stated that “weeks are being counted” for the export contract with Spain, noting that no unresolved issues remain in the talks.
Under the planned procurement with Spain:
- The program cost will be approximately 3 billion 120 million euros,
- 45 HÜRJET aircraft will be procured,
- Deliveries will begin in 2028.
Once the contract is signed, variant details and technical configurations will be officially announced.
