Navigation devices provided by Turkey have arrived in Syria to be installed at Damascus International Airport. With the new systems, air navigation safety and flight security will be strengthened.
Turkey has supported Damascus International Airport with navigation devices in order to enhance the safety of air transport in Syria. Omar al-Hasri, Director General of Syrian Civil Aviation, announced that the first navigation devices and equipment provided by Turkey had been received.
Al-Hasri stated that the new systems would enable pilots to make safer and more precise approaches during landings, adding that the devices would be installed at the airport once the necessary infrastructure work is completed.
The delivered equipment includes an Instrument Landing System (ILS), which facilitates aircraft landings in poor weather conditions, as well as DVOR/DME systems, which provide direction and distance information to aircraft.
Al-Hasri noted that, in the next stages, additional technologies such as primary and secondary radar systems (PSR/SSR) and an approach control system (APP) would also be commissioned. Emphasising that these developments would play a critical role in air traffic control, he thanked Turkey for its technical support and underlined that the cooperation would strengthen both airport infrastructure and air transport safety.
