Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAS) in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara has been the target of a horrific terrorist attack. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that the number of martyrs has risen to 5, with 22 people injured. The two terrorists who carried out the attack died by detonating the explosives they were carrying.
Details of the Terrorist Attack on TUSAS
The attack occurred at 3:26 PM on the TUSAS facility, which plays a crucial role in the development of domestic weapon systems. Two terrorists arrived near the facility in a taxi, opened fire on civilians, and then headed toward the facility. After a loud explosion, special operations teams quickly launched a response operation. It was determined that the terrorists were carrying a large amount of explosives.
Minister Yerlikaya: “We Suspect the PKK”
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said that the PKK is likely responsible for the attack. Efforts to identify the terrorists are ongoing. Yerlikaya stated, “We will share the identities of those responsible for this treacherous attack once confirmed. Curse the vile terrorist organization.”
5 Martyrs, 22 Injured in the Attack
As a result of the attack, 5 people, including TUSAS employees and civilians, were martyred. The martyrs include quality control officer Cengiz Coşkun, mechanical engineer Zahide Güçlü, security guard Atakan Şahin Erdoğan, taxi driver Murat Arslan, and TUSAS employee Hasan Hüseyin Canbaz.
Among the injured, 22 people, including 7 in critical condition, were taken to hospitals. Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu stated that one person is in critical condition and three have been discharged.
Terrorists Detonated Themselves
Following the terrorist attack, special operations teams quickly arrived at the scene and launched a large-scale operation. The terrorists detonated the explosives they were carrying, killing themselves. The terrorists, one male and one female, have not yet been identified.
Investigation into the Terrorists’ Identities
Interior Minister Yerlikaya stated that the investigation into identifying the two terrorists is ongoing. “We believe the PKK is highly likely behind this treacherous attack. Fingerprint and other evidence analyses continue,” Yerlikaya said.
Ministers Visit the Injured
Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, Health Minister Kemal Memişoğlu, and Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya visited the injured at Etlik City Hospital. Yılmaz said, “We have one critically injured person; the condition of the other injured individuals is stable, and their treatment continues.”
Defense Minister Güler: “We Will Make Them Pay Dearly”
National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler made a stern statement regarding the heinous attack. Güler said, “We will punish these PKK terrorists as they deserve. Our fight will continue until the last terrorist is neutralized.”
Investigation Continues
Justice Minister Yılmaz Tunç announced that a deputy chief prosecutor and eight public prosecutors have been assigned to the investigation. Numerous pieces of evidence have been collected, and the investigation is ongoing.
