During Copa Airlines flight CM204 from Brasília, Brazil, to Panama City, terrifying moments unfolded as a passenger attempted to open the plane door just minutes before landing and tried to take a flight attendant hostage.
Passengers Intervened
The incident began when the passenger, heading toward the back of the plane, attempted to attack the flight attendant with a plastic knife. Noticing the situation, passengers Marcelo Ribeiro and Everaldo Torres immediately took action to protect the crew member. When Ribeiro realized the passenger was trying to open the door, he physically intervened. With the help of other passengers, the unruly passenger was subdued.

Copa Airlines officials stated that the crew acted swiftly and effectively during the incident. The airline expressed gratitude for the crew’s professionalism in ensuring passengers’ safety.
Incident Footage and Safe Landing
Footage taken by passengers showed the attacker tied to his seat with plastic handcuffs. The plane landed safely at Tocumen International Airport in Panama, where it was met by local security forces, and the aggressive passenger was taken into custody.
