As part of its fleet renewal programme, Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), a member of the Lufthansa Group, has taken delivery of its first Airbus A350-900. The new-generation aircraft will become the airline’s flagship, offering enhanced fuel efficiency and passenger comfort.
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS), a member of the Lufthansa Group, has received the first of ten Airbus A350-900 aircraft. The new aircraft, a key component of SWISS’s fleet modernisation programme, will serve as the airline’s flagship on long-haul routes.
The new A350-900 will operate from SWISS’s Zurich hub on transatlantic routes such as Boston, strengthening the airline’s global network.
Enhanced Comfort with the New SWISS Senses Cabin
The A350-900 is the first aircraft in SWISS’s long-haul fleet to feature the new “SWISS Senses” cabin design. The four-class configuration includes:
- Three suites in First Class (configurable up to four),
- 45 seats in Business Class,
- 38 seats in Premium Economy,
- 156 seats in Economy Class.
The new cabin concept aims to offer greater personalisation, more living space, and an enhanced travel experience across all classes.
Setting New Standards in Efficiency and Sustainability
The Airbus A350-900 is recognised as one of the most advanced widebody passenger aircraft in the world. Thanks to its state-of-the-art aerodynamic design, lightweight composite materials, and fuel-efficient engines, the aircraft delivers up to 25% reductions in fuel burn, operating costs, and CO₂ emissions compared with previous-generation aircraft.
Airbus has stated that all A350 aircraft are already capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a target of achieving full 100% SAF compatibility by 2030.
Growing Global Demand for the A350 Programme
As of September 2025, Airbus has received more than 1,400 orders for the A350 family from 63 customers worldwide. Combining low-emission performance with passenger comfort, the A350 is positioned as one of the leading platforms in aviation’s green transition.
SWISS officials stated that the new A350 fleet “reflects the airline’s vision for the future and forms a cornerstone of its commitment to environmentally responsible growth.”
