The passenger aircraft operated by Sky Express, which took off from Greece’s capital Athens bound for the island of Rhodes, was unable to land in Rhodes due to a storm affecting the Aegean Sea. Despite attempting to land three times, the aircraft was diverted to Kos (Istanköy) Airport because of adverse weather conditions.
According to the information obtained, pilots were unable to carry out a safe landing due to strong winds and a storm affecting the area around Rhodes Airport. As a result, the aircraft was forced to land on the island of Kos, located approximately 7 miles from Bodrum.
Adverse Weather Conditions Disrupted Flights in the Aegean
Authorities stated that worsening weather conditions across the Aegean Sea caused disruptions to air traffic. It was noted that the Sky Express aircraft was diverted to an alternate airport for this reason.
In a statement from airline sources, it was reported that the aircraft would proceed to Rhodes again once weather conditions improved. It was emphasised that all procedures were fully implemented to ensure passenger safety.
Passenger Safety Was the Priority
No injuries were reported in the incident, and it was stated that the landing was carried out entirely as part of precautionary safety measures. Authorities added that flights would be gradually rescheduled once weather conditions returned to normal.
