Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced that the search-and-rescue and investigation efforts being carried out in relation to the aircraft carrying a Libyan military delegation that crashed in Ankara are continuing in all aspects. Yerlikaya provided detailed information on the technical process of the accident, the intervention stages, and the coordination in the field.
Aircraft Requested to Return Due to a Technical Malfunction
Minister Yerlikaya stated that the aircraft requested to return at 20:32 due to a technical malfunction. According to the statement, contact with the aircraft was lost at around 20:52 near the Haymana district of Ankara.
Teams Mobilised Following the Report
After contact with the aircraft was lost, numerous teams were dispatched to the region following a report received by the 112 Emergency Call Centre. Yerlikaya stated that Gendarmerie, AFAD, Police, Health and UMKE teams were immediately mobilised, and that search-and-rescue operations were initiated under the coordination of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure and the Air Force Command.
Gendarmerie First to Reach Aircraft Debris
It was reported that Gendarmerie teams, who reached the scene at around 22:00, found some aircraft parts during their initial field scans.
Wreckage Located in Haymana
In the later phase of the search efforts, it was announced that the aircraft wreckage was located approximately 2 kilometres south of Kesikkavak neighbourhood in the Haymana district.
AFAD Mobile Coordination Centre Established
Following the discovery of the wreckage, a Mobile Coordination Centre was established by AFAD to ensure effective incident management and inter-agency coordination. It was noted that field deployment and command are being carried out through this centre.
Judicial and Criminal Process Initiated
Minister Yerlikaya stated that the judicial and criminal processes related to the accident are, from this stage onwards, being conducted under the coordination of the Gendarmerie General Command.
More Than 400 Personnel Deployed in the Field
According to the statement, a total of 408 personnel from the following units are continuing operations in the field with 103 ground vehicles and 7 aerial vehicles as part of the search-and-rescue and investigation efforts:
