SOCAR Türkiye and Pegasus Airlines have signed a strategic cooperation agreement in the field of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). The parties will jointly work to develop the SAF ecosystem in Türkiye, establish production infrastructure, and strengthen the future supply chain.

SOCAR Türkiye and Pegasus Airlines have entered into a significant partnership aimed at reducing carbon emissions in the aviation sector. Under the Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) agreement signed between the parties, feasibility studies, business development activities, and supply chain projects aimed at developing the SAF ecosystem in Türkiye will be carried out jointly.

According to the companies’ statement, the agreement aims to support the sustainability-focused transformation of the energy and aviation sectors.

The Goal Is to Develop the SAF Ecosystem in Türkiye

As part of the cooperation, the two companies will work together to identify the needs of the sustainable aviation fuel sector in Türkiye, conduct feasibility studies for the development of production and supply chains, and carry out industry awareness activities.

The parties will also evaluate new cooperation opportunities related to sustainable aviation fuel not only in Türkiye but also in other regions.

SOCAR Türkiye to Focus on Production and Technology Initiatives

SOCAR Türkiye plans to carry out work on sustainable aviation fuel production, new energy technologies, and supply chain solutions.

SOCAR Türkiye CEO Elchin Ibadov stated that sustainability is among the company’s long-term strategic priorities and emphasized that sustainable aviation fuels play a critical role in reducing the carbon footprint of the aviation sector.

Ibadov said they expect the cooperation launched with Pegasus to contribute to evaluating Türkiye’s SAF potential and developing future joint projects.

Pegasus: Experience in SAF Use Will Contribute to the Process

As part of the cooperation, Pegasus Airlines will contribute to the project by identifying market needs for sustainable aviation fuel and sharing its operational experience in the use of SAF.

Pegasus CEO Güliz Öztürk stated that the company has long been implementing strategies to reduce carbon emissions through its young fleet and operational efficiency initiatives.

Öztürk emphasized that Pegasus has been using sustainable aviation fuel since 2022 in progressively increasing volumes and across a broader flight network, adding that the cooperation with SOCAR Türkiye will contribute to the development of the SAF ecosystem in Türkiye.

A Strategic Step Toward Sustainable Aviation

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) is regarded as one of the alternative fuels capable of significantly reducing carbon emissions throughout its lifecycle compared to conventional jet fuel.

The agreement signed between SOCAR Türkiye and Pegasus is intended to lay the groundwork for the development of long-term projects related to the production, supply, and use of sustainable aviation fuel in Türkiye.
