IndiGo Airlines flight 6E5028, operating from Mumbai to Varanasi, was forced to make an emergency landing on Sunday, April 6, 2025, after an 89-year-old passenger, Sushila Devi, passed away during the flight. The aircraft was diverted to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar’s (IXU) Chikalthana Airport.
The incident occurred when the health condition of passenger Devi rapidly deteriorated during the flight from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh. The flight crew decided to divert to the nearest suitable airport as her condition worsened. After landing in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, medical teams confirmed that Devi had passed away.
Airport authorities stated that Devi’s condition worsened shortly after takeoff from Mumbai, and the flight crew responded quickly to the emergency. After the emergency landing, the necessary procedures were completed, and Devi’s body was transferred to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Government Medical College and Hospital.
Such medical emergencies are critical for ensuring flight safety. A similar incident occurred on an IndiGo flight from Patna to Delhi. On flight 6E2163, the aircraft made an emergency landing in Lucknow after a passenger’s severe health condition, but despite efforts to assist, the passenger passed away.
On another Air India flight, a 52-year-old passenger was found dead after the plane landed at Lucknow Airport. The passenger, Aashif Daulla Ansari, was unresponsive when noticed by a flight attendant cleaning the food tray. Medical intervention was attempted, but Ansari was later confirmed dead.
