Bradley Smith, 22, and Antonia Sullivan, 20, both residents of Wales, were arrested after allegedly engaging in sexual activity on a flight back from the Canary Islands. The incident came to light when other passengers reported the couple’s actions to the cabin crew, claiming they were involved in sexual activity under a coat.
When the plane landed in Bristol, the couple was immediately detained by security forces on charges of “engaging in sexual activity in a public place.” Smith and Sullivan admitted to the charges during questioning and were later brought before the Bristol Magistrates’ Court.
Judge: You Ignored Others’ Feelings
During the trial, Judge Lynne Matthews harshly criticized the couple’s behavior, stating, “You showed no regard for the feelings of other passengers. There was a child sitting behind you who could see what was happening. Who do you think you are, and what makes you believe you have the right to behave this way in front of people on a plane?”
Sentencing and Compensation
The consequences of their actions were severe. Bradley Smith was sentenced to 300 hours of community service, while Antonia Sullivan received 270 hours. In addition, they were ordered to pay £100 (approximately 4,500 TL) in compensation to each of the three witnesses to the incident.
The event has sparked renewed discussions about airline safety and passenger conduct, serving as a reminder that such inappropriate behavior can lead to serious consequences.
