The newly established Saudi Arabian airline, Riyadh Air, has announced an order of 60 Airbus A321 narrow-body jets for its operations set to begin in 2025. This agreement, signed at the Future Investment Initiative forum in Riyadh, brings the total number of aircraft ordered by Riyadh Air to 132.
As Saudi Arabia’s newest carrier preparing to enter the aviation industry, Riyadh Air previously made headlines with an order of 39 Boeing 787 Dreamliners and an additional 33 options in 2022. This new A321 order demonstrates the airline’s strategy to strengthen its fleet with a combination of wide-body and narrow-body aircraft.
$4 Billion Airbus A321 Order
According to estimates from Cirium Ascend, the value of Riyadh Air’s A321 order, including industry-standard discounts, is projected to be around $4 billion. The airline’s diversified fleet strategy is notable, especially after speculation regarding potential orders of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Instead, Riyadh Air has opted for Airbus to solidify its narrow-body fleet.
