Ceren Oğuz Brings EMSE’s 40-Year Engineering Heritage to Europe with Quavis
Taking over a 40-year engineering legacy, second-generation woman leader Ceren Oğuz is introducing EMSE’s expertise in aviation technologies to Europe through the Quavis brand. With a production model that integrates software, hardware, and design, Oğuz sets herself apart and serves as an example of female entrepreneurship in the global arena.
Founded in Ankara in 1980, EMSE is undergoing an international transformation under the vision of its second-generation leader, Ceren Oğuz. The company, which began its engineering journey with currency boards, now continues with airport technologies and is expanding into the European market under the Quavis brand.
The company’s European General Manager, Ceren Oğuz, says: “I want to demonstrate the power of women in engineering and leadership. We are positioning Turkish engineering in the global market not only in production but also in innovation and vision.”
Carrying a family legacy into the future
Having joined EMSE as a partner at a young age and nurtured her interest in engineering, Ceren Oğuz took her first professional steps during the pandemic by managing the company’s personal data protection processes. After successes in Türkiye, she took charge of the company’s international expansion in aviation, founding Quavis GmbH in Frankfurt in 2024 to launch operations across Europe. “Seeing a currency board produced before I was even born still working perfectly after 40 years was the moment I decided to become the company’s second-generation leader,” says Oğuz, emphasising that the integrated production model is Quavis’s main differentiating factor.
“We don’t just manufacture devices; we redesign the passenger experience”
Quavis enhances airline operations with self-service check-in, baggage drop-off, and biometric verification systems, adding speed, efficiency, and security. Managing every process under one roof — from software to industrial design — allows the company to offer tailor-made solutions with the advantage of knowing its products inside out. According to Oğuz, Quavis’s greatest source of inspiration is its users: “We go beyond check-in kiosks; with weighing systems, payment integrations, and seat selection features, we are redesigning the entire passenger experience. Our customers’ feedback drives the evolution of our products.”
Female leadership and global vision
Having successfully completed her master’s degree in Aviation Management at the Wildau Institute of Technology and gained business development experience in Germany by working with international teams, Oğuz says: “Quality alone is no longer enough.” She notes that they compete in the global market with marketing strategies, social media management, and dynamics that take cultural differences into account.
Advocating for increased visibility of female entrepreneurship in male-dominated sectors such as industry and technology, Oğuz says: “As a woman, carrying an engineering legacy into the future is both a responsibility and a source of motivation. We need to create more space for female leadership on a global scale.”
A strong presence on the international stage: Passenger Terminal Expo 2025
Quavis’s innovations drew great attention at Passenger Terminal Expo 2025, which they attended in recent months. The 14 kg portable check-in device, Q-Mobile Port, offered an innovative solution for small airports with its compact design. The device completes tasks such as ticket printing and baggage tag production within seconds, revolutionising airport operations.
The fair also featured One-Step BagDrop and next-generation self-service kiosks. Oğuz says: “The feedback we received shows that our designs resonate with the industry. This encourages us,” underlining their commitment to continuing their customer-focused innovation strategies.
