The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) launched an investigation Tuesday morning into a Cessna 172 aircraft that skidded off the runway at Naples Municipal Airport in Florida. The pilot and passengers reportedly left the scene.
A mysterious plane crash in Florida, USA, has come under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Authorities have begun examining why a light aircraft, a Cessna 172, skidded off the runway at Naples Municipal Airport early Tuesday morning.
According to Naples Police and airport management, the plane took off from Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport and landed in Naples around 3:00 a.m. However, during landing, the aircraft veered off the runway and came to a stop on the grass beside the runway. Visible damage was observed on the nose of the plane, while no one was found at the scene.
Authorities stated that the pilot and passengers left the area after the crash, leaving the plane on the runway. No injuries have been reported so far.
ADS-B flight data indicates that the aircraft departed Fort Lauderdale around 1:00 a.m., briefly flew over Fort Myers Page Field, and then headed to Naples, landing at 2:42 a.m.
Naples Airport spokesperson Robin King told local media, “This is truly an unusual and mysterious situation. The tower was closed at that hour, but night landings are allowed. Still, a voluntary curfew is in place at the airport from 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.”
Airport security teams noted that two people entered through a locked gate during the night, which is generally considered normal. After the crash, the plane was moved to a hangar for detailed inspection.
According to Gulf Coast ABC and WESH news sources, the FAA has taken over the investigation into the cause of the crash. Naples Airport continues operations at full capacity while the investigation is ongoing.
