India’s largest airline accelerates its global expansion vision by increasing its Airbus A350 fleet to 60 aircraft
India’s largest airline, IndiGo, has converted the Memorandum of Understanding signed in June into a firm order for 30 Airbus A350 aircraft. With this new order, IndiGo’s total A350 fleet has now risen to 60 aircraft.
This strategic move strengthens the airline’s entry into the long-haul international market and supports its global ambitions, thanks to the A350’s advanced range and fuel efficiency.

IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers emphasised the significance of the agreement, stating:
“Today is a special day for IndiGo. We are expanding our footprint internationally and offering our customers unique connectivity opportunities. This order for an additional 30 A350-900s reflects our confidence in the future of Indian aviation. Our strategic partnership with Airbus has been further reinforced by the strong start of our long-haul operations.”
Elbers underlined that, in line with India’s vision of becoming a global aviation hub, IndiGo is taking firm steps toward its goal of becoming a leading international carrier by 2030.

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Commercial Aircraft Sales at Airbus, expressed his satisfaction with the expanding collaboration, saying:
“The A350’s exceptional fuel efficiency, range, and comfort align perfectly with IndiGo’s ambitious growth plans. This milestone further strengthens our partnership with one of the world’s fastest-growing airlines.”
A350: A New Standard in Efficiency
The Airbus A350, with a seating capacity of 300–410 passengers, stands out as the world’s most modern and efficient widebody aircraft. Its new-generation engines and lightweight composite structure deliver a 25% advantage in fuel consumption, operating costs, and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation aircraft.
All A350 aircraft are also capable of operating with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Airbus aims to make all its aircraft models 100% SAF-compatible by 2030.
Strategic Partnership Between India and Airbus
Airbus has played an active role in India’s civil aviation development for over half a century.
While the A320 family has made air travel more accessible across India, the A350 has become the benchmark aircraft showcasing the country’s long-haul potential.
As of September 2025, the Airbus A350 has received more than 1,400 orders from 63 customers worldwide.
