Strategic Engine Partnership Between TUSAŞ and GE Aerospace for HÜRJET

TUSAŞ and GE Aerospace have signed a memorandum of understanding for the F404 engines that will power Turkey’s first indigenous jet trainer, HÜRJET. The agreement covers a multifaceted partnership, from procurement to maintenance.

Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc. (TUSAŞ), a leading company in Turkey’s aviation and defence sector, has signed a strategic memorandum of understanding with U.S.-based engine manufacturer GE Aerospace under the scope of the HÜRJET Jet Trainer Aircraft Program.

The cooperation was formalised at the 17th International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF 2025), held at the Istanbul Expo Center. The agreement includes the integration of F404 turbofan engines into the HÜRJET platform and long-term support plans.

Comprehensive Partnership from Procurement to Flight Testing

According to the official statement, the collaboration extends beyond engine supply and includes support for flight test activities, engine integration, and the development of maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services.

GE Aerospace’s F404 engines have proven their performance and reliability across numerous platforms worldwide. With this engine, HÜRJET is expected to become more competitive in the global market.

TUSAŞ CEO: “Our Goal is Global Leadership”

At the signing ceremony, TUSAŞ CEO Mehmet Demiroğlu stated:

“HÜRJET plays a critical role in modern pilot training. It has already completed over 210 flights and has been showcased at major international fairs. This new step with GE Aerospace will strengthen HÜRJET’s engine infrastructure and pave the way for its international presence.”

Demiroğlu highlighted the performance of the F404 engine and noted that the partnership would ensure the long-term operational sustainability of HÜRJET. He also pointed out that the infrastructure collaboration with Spain and the aircraft’s export potential would be further reinforced through this strengthened alliance.
