Turkey’s domestically developed jet trainer, HÜRJET, has marked a historic milestone in Turkish aviation. During a test flight on October 21, 2024, HÜRJET successfully broke the sound barrier, achieving a significant breakthrough for the defense industry.
On the morning of October 21 at 09:45, the HÜRJET Jet Trainer took off from Mürted Air Base in Ankara. During its 38th test flight, it exceeded Mach 1, reaching supersonic speeds. This achievement validated HÜRJET’s transonic and supersonic flight capabilities, marking a critical milestone in its development.
The development of HÜRJET began in 2017 under the coordination of the Presidency of Defense Industries (SSB). The aircraft made its maiden flight on April 25, 2023, and is set to enter serial production, with its induction into service planned for 2026.
