Frontier Airlines is the US’ tenth-largest carrier for passengers flying to the Caribbean, Central America, and Mexico. The country’s Department of Transportation (DOT) shows that 4.7 million such passengers were carried in the 12 months to March 2026, which had increased by a strong 18.1% year-over-year.
All airlines have route churn, and Frontier clearly has its fair share. Such ultra-low-cost carriers (ULCCs) tend to be more entrepreneurial in their network development. They are more willing to try things. And if it does not work, they are usually quicker to cut the financial drain and to redeploy the very expensive aircraft asset.
Frontier Has Ended These 34 International Routes
Frontier’s international schedule submission to OAG data has been examined. The ULCC’s network from January 2025 to June 2026 has been compared to what is planned from July to November 2026 (reservations are currently available until that winter month). Any destinations located in US territories are excluded.
Any route with more than three nonstop flights in 2025 or through the first half of this year, but which is not scheduled thereafter, is included. A handful of the links may return in December 2026 or at some point in 2027. As such information is currently unavailable, they are treated as having been removed. Any market that operates during or after July 2026 and which will end thereafter, some of which are listed here, is excluded.
All 34 routes are shown on the following interactive map. Perhaps unexpectedly, virtually all the entries (29) ended in 2026, and most did so in April or May. 14 US airports have lost at least one international route in the examined period. Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is the most affected, as ten airport pairs have gone. Miami International Airport (MIA) has lost five.
The ULCC first had non-US service from ATL, which is the world’s busiest airport for passenger traffic, in November 2021. Between then and June 2026, OAG shows that Frontier had 4,908 international departures from the Georgia airport. It was the third-largest operator for such activity, behind Delta Air Lines (131,332 departures) and Air Canada (6,864).
Frontier had an average of three daily outbound flights. Despite the modest number, ATL was nonetheless the budget operator’s top airport for international services. All ten markets removed from ATL ended in April 2026. Some only started in December 2025, so it is theoretically possible that they may return during the festive month in 2026. However, DOT data shows that most of them performed shockingly poorly.
For example, the government source shows that flights to Providenciales, which launched last December, had an average load factor of 17.6% (!). It was 22.2% for Nassau (last served in June 2023 and returned in December 2025), 30.8% for St. Maarten (began last December), and so on. The figures are so low that it raises questions about whether the DOT information is correct.

Frontier has flown between Denver International Airport (DEN) and the Mexican resort destination of Puerto Vallarta since 2003. This was when DEN was overwhelmingly the carrier’s most-served airport, long before its transformation into a countrywide ULCC. 23 years ago, 98% of Frontier’s total flights touched DEN. In 2026, it is 20%, although it remains the most-served airport. ATL is catching up, benefiting from Southwest Airlines’ cuts.
As recently as 2015, Frontier had up to two daily services between DEN and Puerto Vallarta. It benefited from the relative lack of head-to-head competition, as it only competed directly with Mexicana (for a while) and United Airlines. Surprisingly, United’s frequency was lower than Frontier’s.
Southwest entered the market in 2015. Ten years later, Frontier had just 46 departures (mainly flying on Saturdays), spread across 11 of the 12 months, down from 122 departures the year before. The final service left DEN on April 11, 2026.
