The Board of Directors of SunExpress has announced the appointment of Marcus Schnabel as the new CEO, effective from February 1, 2026. Schnabel will replace Max Kownatzki, who currently serves as the CEO of Eurowings.
As a joint venture between Turkish Airlines and Lufthansa, SunExpress welcomes one of the aviation industry’s experienced leaders with the appointment of Marcus Schnabel. Schnabel, who joined from the Lufthansa Group, has achieved significant successes in recent years, most notably as Head of Ground Operations at Lufthansa’s Munich headquarters.
Key Milestones Under Max Kownatzki’s Leadership
Max Kownatzki, who has served as CEO of SunExpress since 2020, successfully led the company through the impacts of COVID-19, steering SunExpress toward sustainable growth. Kownatzki will continue in his role until January 31, 2026, ensuring a smooth leadership transition.
