Special Ramadan Service Initiative from Emirates: Iftar Box on the Plane, Prayer Mat and Special Content

Emirates is offering iftar boxes, special meal menus, prayer mat service and religious content on its flights and in its lounges during the month of Ramadan. Special support is also provided for Umrah passengers.

Emirates Will Offer Special Services to Its Passengers During Ramadan

In line with the spirit of unity, sharing and spirituality of Ramadan, Emirates has prepared a comprehensive service package for fasting passengers both onboard and at boarding gates.

The airline will distribute thousands of complimentary iftar boxes, serve specially designed Ramadan meals, provide prayer mats and broadcast religious content via its inflight entertainment system.

Free Iftar Boxes at Boarding Gates

To ensure the comfort of fasting passengers, free iftar boxes will be distributed at selected Emirates boarding gates.

The boxes will include:

Water, yoghurt, banana and dates. The practice has been planned so passengers can comfortably break their fast before flights that coincide with iftar time.

Special Ramadan Meal Boxes Onboard

Throughout Ramadan, nutritionally balanced Ramadan meal boxes will be offered to passengers travelling in all cabin classes to selected destinations.

Specially designed boxes will include:

Dates, hummus, moutabal or muhammara, Arabic bread, chicken mossakan sandwich or herb chicken sandwich, chocolate-covered almonds, pistachio maamoul or varieties of baklava. These refreshments will be served in addition to the standard hot meal service.

Emirates also uses a special system that calculates imsak and iftar times during flights based on the aircraft’s latitude, longitude and altitude data. When the sun sets, the captain officially announces the time to break the fast.

Special souvenir prayer mats that can be requested from the cabin crew for fasting passengers are also available onboard.

Ramadan Flavours in Dubai and Regional Lounges

During Ramadan, dates, Arabic coffee and traditional desserts will be served at the seven Emirates Lounges at Dubai International Airport.

In First and Business Class lounges:

  • Arabic appetisers
  • Lentil soup
  • Lamb kabsa
  • Chicken machboos
  • Lamb shank ouzi
  • Pistachio künefe
  • Basbousa
  • Kathayef

Date and baklava ice cream will be offered as part of rich menus.

Additionally, special Ramadan menus will also be available at Emirates Lounges in Cairo and Jeddah. Dedicated prayer rooms and ablution facilities are also provided in lounge areas.

Ramadan Content on the ICE System

Ramadan-specific religious content and popular series will be broadcast via Emirates’ inflight entertainment system ice.

On the platform:

  • Arabic religious programmes
  • Urdu Ramadan content
  • The Holy Qur’an
  • Popular Arabic series and dramas will be available.

Overall, the system offers more than 6,500 on-demand contents, including nearly 450 Arabic movie and TV channels and around 400 Arabic music and podcast channels.

Special Bukhoor Fragrance Series for Ramadan

Emirates has also launched a new Bukhoor fragrance series to bring the Ramadan atmosphere into homes.

The scents named Oud Rose, Dreamy Nights and Sacred Ember include notes such as agarwood, rose, amber, saffron, lavender and vanilla. The specially designed 70-gram jars are offered for sale at the Emirates Official Store for 52 US dollars.

Special Support for Umrah Passengers

During Ramadan, Ramadan boxes will be served onboard to groups travelling to Medina and Jeddah for Umrah.

Passengers will also be able to carry up to 5 litres of Zamzam water per person in their luggage from Dubai International Airport and various airports in Saudi Arabia.

Ramadan Awareness Training for Staff

Emirates organises Ramadan awareness training for its cabin and ground teams in Dubai and across its global network. The training aims to ensure employees are informed about the cultural and religious sensitivities of Ramadan and provide passengers with the highest standard of service.
