Urgent eSIM Alert for British Tourists Going to Turkey: Act Before You Fly

eSIM Access Restricted in Turkey, Experts Warn: Your Internet Connection May Be Cut Off Before Your Holiday Begins

As Turkey remains one of the most popular summer destinations for British tourists, a sudden eSIM regulation in the country is directly affecting pre-trip preparations. The Foreign Ministry issued an official travel update informing British citizens; experts emphasize the need to take action to avoid losing internet connectivity.

British citizens planning a summer holiday in Turkey face a new digital restriction. According to the latest update in the Foreign Ministry’s official travel advice, access to some eSIM services in Turkey is limited. The warning states, “Consult your operator before traveling,” while experts urge travelers to take precautions to avoid being caught unprepared.

“Activate your eSIM in the UK, not in Turkey”

Juan David Soler, an expert from Holafly, which provides international travel connectivity solutions, said:

“Turkey’s sudden ban on eSIMs caught many travelers off guard. You must ensure your eSIM is downloaded and activated on your device before flying to Turkey. Otherwise, you may find yourself without internet upon landing.”

Soler also noted that eSIMs have become increasingly popular among British travelers as they provide affordable internet access without physical SIM cards. However, due to this restriction in Turkey, passengers will no longer be able to install or activate eSIMs after arrival.

Risks for maps, transport, and bookings

Experts warn that loss of internet connection can cause serious disruptions, especially for travelers relying on digital tools. Many services, such as maps, online transport apps, digital hotel reservations, and QR-coded ticket systems require internet access.

Juan David Soler warned, “Make sure your eSIM is active before leaving the UK. This prevents major disruptions during the first moments of your holiday.”
