The “Cessna 208B Grand Caravan” passenger aircraft, operated by Bering Air, took off from Unalakleet, Alaska, bound for Nome but disappeared from radar shortly after departure. Search teams later found the wreckage on sea ice approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Nome.

The NTSB report confirmed that the aircraft exceeded its certified gross weight limit for known icing conditions by 480 kilograms. Tragically, all 10 people on board, including one pilot and nine passengers, lost their lives at the crash site.

Meanwhile, Canada’s Transportation Safety Board has published its preliminary report on the February 17 crash involving a Delta Air Lines passenger aircraft in Ontario.

Excessive Speed Led to Landing Gear Collapse

The passenger plane, traveling from Minneapolis, U.S., to Toronto, Canada, lost control upon landing, flipped over, and skidded across the snowy ground. The report recorded the aircraft’s landing speed at approximately 250 km/h. This excessive speed caused the right main landing gear to collapse, leading to the structural failure of the side support and detachment of the wing from the fuselage.

Investigators also highlighted the severe wind and icy weather conditions present on the day of the crash. Of the 80 passengers on board, 21 sustained minor injuries. Authorities continue to investigate the crash to determine its definitive causes.
