The world’s largest low-cost carrier, Southwest Airlines is adding extra capacity for the back-to-school season, with the airline adding new and exciting routes for Spring 2027. The airline is adding more departures than ever before from Austin Bergstrom International Airport (AUS) and Orlando International Airport (MCO), while also boosting services at Nashville International Airport (BNA) and Las Vegas Harry Reid International Airport (LAS).
As reported on the carrier’s website, Austin will see a record-high number of departures, with up to 141 daily flights multiple days a week, while in Orlando, the airline will celebrate a total of 214 daily departures on Saturdays. Part of Southwest’s boost at Orlando includes a third daily service to New York LaGuardia Airport (LGA) and adding new services within the state to Pensacola (PNS), Florida.
Southwest Plans Its Biggest Spring Schedule From Austin And Orlando
New services from Austin, will see nonstop flights to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport (DTW) (operating four times weekly on Monday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday), one-weekly flights to San Jose (SJO) on Saturdays, five weekly flights to Steamboat Springs (Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday), and a new Montrose (MTJ) service which will fly five times a week on Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This marks the largest ever number of departures from Austin, further cementing it as the leading carrier at the Texan airport.
Orlando will see a welcome boost with its highest ever number of daily departures. While LaGuardia, as already mentioned, will see a thrice-daily service, additional flights will be added to Pensacola, while additional services are adjusted throughout the airline’s network.
Other new routes that have been announced include a twice-daily connection between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) and Philadelphia International Airport (PHL), Dallas Love Field (DAL) and Detroit, Nashville to Des Moines (DSM) and Wichita (ICT), Las Vegas to Boston (BOS), Miami (MIA), Philadelphia and Knoxville (TYS), with varying frequencies across the week.
More Leisure Routes To Latin America And The Caribbean
As part of the latest Spring schedule, Southwest will also add several additional services to the Caribbean and Latin America. A Saturday-only service will begin in March and fly from Nashville to Aruba (AUA), while services to Liberia (LIR), Montego Bay (MBJ), St Thomas (STT), and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) will also add to the carrier’s growing network from the capital of country music. An additional domestic service is also set to commence between Nashville and Columbus (CMH).
The airline isn’t stopping there, with more services to be added between Honolulu International Airport (HNL) and Californian airports of Burbank (BUR) and Ontario (ONT), which will both see five weekly flights (all days except Tuesday and Wednesday). Additional weekend-only services will be added from San Diego (SAN) to Kona (KOA) and Lihue (LIH). A reverse red-eye is also planned with an eye-watering 2:45 AM departure from Las Vegas to the Aloha State, with an early morning arrival into Honolulu (HNL).
Across the airline’s network adjustments, the schedule adds an increase in daily flights when compared to the same schedule this year. On average, more than 4,000 daily flights will take off each day. A breakdown below as per the airline’s newsroom:

As noticed by Enrilia, Southwest has quietly removed its nonstop Las Vegas to San Jose, Costa Rica service. The nonstop flight was slated to begin with a daily frequency from November. More withdrawals include Southwest from Kona to Kahului, Lihui to Kahului, and New York to Omaha.
These moves by Southwest could, in part, be in response to the demise of Spirit Airlines, such as services from Detroit. While adding more services from Nashville will relieve the pull on Chicago Midway International Airport (MDW). Additionally it is speculated that the airline may win additional slots at LGA from Spirit.
All in, 15 new routes will take off with Southwest for March 2027, showing the airline has no signs of slowing down with more options and frequencies for those looking to book early and plan for Spring break 2027. Southwest remains the largest low-cost carrier in the United States and globally, with a fleet of more than 800 Boeing 737 aircraft. Southwest has all of these services now available to book via the usual channels.
