NATO Shows Strength in Northern Europe: US Supersonic Bombers in Norway

Three supersonic heavy bombers, taking off from Dyess Air Force Base in Texas, have landed in Norway. The critical NATO flight was escorted by Spanish EF/A-18M Hornet fighter jets, which had departed from Iceland’s Keflavík Air Base to carry out air policing duties.

Purpose of the Exercise

The drill was based on the concept of “find, fix, track, and target.” While testing their free manoeuvring capabilities in high-threat airspace, pilots enhanced their real-time coordination, rapid response, and air superiority skills through simulated air and ground threats.

Captain Eric Alvarez, Commander of the Bomber Squadron, stated, “This mission provides an opportunity to enhance the way we fight alongside our NATO allies, ensuring we remain ready and interoperable.”

Timing Raises Attention

The exercise, taking place just weeks before Russia’s large-scale “Zapad-2025” military manoeuvres, is seen as “an open show of force” by NATO towards Moscow. The development underscores the growing importance of security and deterrence strategies in Northern European airspace.
