Boeing announced that Air Senegal has committed to an order of nine 737 MAX aircraft. Once finalized, this order will represent the airline’s largest fleet investment to date and its first Boeing aircraft acquisition since 2004. With this purchase, Air Senegal aims to modernize its single-aisle fleet with nine 737-8 aircraft.
With the addition of the new 737-8 aircraft, Air Senegal plans to expand its existing network in Europe and open new routes from Dakar to the Middle East and the Americas. Thanks to the operational advantages of the 737 MAX family, passengers will save time with non-stop flights and gain direct access to more destinations.
Air Senegal CEO Tidiane Ndiaye highlighted the strategic importance of this investment for the company, stating:
“This purchase is a significant milestone for Air Senegal. The order is a critical part of our vision to expand our regional and intercontinental network and strengthen Dakar’s position as a leading aviation hub in West Africa.”
The 737-8 model features a two-class cabin with a capacity of 178 passengers and can fly up to 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km). The aircraft reduces fuel consumption and emissions by 20% compared to previous models while cutting noise footprint by 50%. These efficiency advantages will significantly lower Air Senegal’s operational costs and environmental impact.
Boeing Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing Brad McMullen commented on Air Senegal’s investment:

According to Boeing’s 2025 Commercial Market Outlook, African airlines will require more than 1,200 new aircraft over the next 20 years, with single-aisle jets accounting for the majority of this demand. The 737-8 model stands out as an ideal option to meet the continent’s rapidly increasing passenger capacity needs.
