Air New Zealand Reveals New Boeing 777 Cabins Before 2027 Retrofit

Air New Zealand is investing in a major cabin refresh for its Boeing 777-300ER fleet, introducing redesigned Business Premier and Economy cabins that will bring greater consistency across its long-haul international operations.

The retrofit program, scheduled to begin in March 2027, with the first aircraft returning to service by May 2027, will align the Boeing 777 experience more closely with the airline’s upgraded Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners while extending the aircraft’s service life.

According to Air New Zealand, the investment aims to “ensure the airline delivers a product that meets customer needs now and into the future.” 

“These upgrades will deliver a more consistent experience across Air New Zealand’s international fleet, with a design and production standard that matches the world-class Kiwi service we’re proud to provide onboard,” said Air New Zealand Chief Customer & Digital Officer Jeremy O’Brien, in a press statement. 

Upgraded Features for Business Travelers

The upgraded Business Premier cabin will feature 44 forward-facing seats in a reverse configuration. Each seat will include a privacy door, lie-flat bed, Bluetooth-enabled 18-inch inflight entertainment screen, USB charging outlets and sliding privacy dividers between center seats.

Economy passengers will also see significant improvements with newly designed ergonomic seats. The updated layout brings the total to 246 seats, while maintaining Economy Stretch seating with a 35-inch space and standard Economy seating ranging from 31 to 32 inches.

Premium Economy will remain unchanged following a separate refresh completed over the past year that included new seat covers and cabin curtains. While the overall aircraft capacity will remain at 342 seats, the revised configuration will reduce Premium Economy seating from 54 to 52 seats while adding two additional Economy seats.
