Since its opening, Ercan Airport has continued to see growth in both passenger and aircraft numbers, with this trend extending through October 2024. The increases in passenger and aircraft activity at Ercan Airport not only support tourism but also contribute significantly to the national economy.
According to data released by T&T Airport Operations, comparing the first 10 months of 2023 and 2024 reveals a 20.49% increase in passenger numbers and a 13.23% increase in aircraft movements. October 2024 was particularly notable, as it recorded the highest number of passengers. In October 2023, 408,051 passengers traveled through Ercan, while in October 2024, this figure rose by 13.38% to reach 462,646 passengers, representing an increase of 54,595 passengers.
As passenger numbers rise, the financial contribution to the government also increases through a revenue-sharing arrangement, where T&T Airport Operations contributes 56% of its turnover, including VAT, every three months.
24,893 Aircraft Movements in 10 Months
From January to October 2023, Ercan Airport handled a total of 21,984 aircraft (10,898 arrivals and 10,995 departures). During the same period in 2024, this number rose by 13.23%, reaching a total of 24,893 aircraft (12,446 arrivals and 12,447 departures).
In terms of passenger numbers, Ercan Airport served a total of 3,267,171 passengers (1,641,020 arrivals and 1,626,151 departures) from January to October 2023. For the same period in 2024, this figure increased to 3,936,745 passengers (1,971,600 arrivals and 1,965,145 departures).
October Shows the Highest Growth in Passenger Numbers
In both 2023 and 2024, October saw the highest passenger numbers in the January-October period, with 408,051 passengers in October 2023 and 462,646 in October 2024.
Similarly, aircraft movements peaked in October each year, with Ercan Airport recording 2,609 aircraft movements in October 2023 and 2,947 in October 2024.
